“Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God…”

The Holy Spirit is our personal adviser and guide through life,  He is our counselor. The key to being in God’s will is the ability to make wise decisions and for that, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us. The key to making wise decisions is to know what door to go through in life. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” There are a lot of other doors you can knock on to try to find answers. You can knock on the door of your horoscope, but I wouldn’t recommend it. You can knock on the door of your feelings but your feelings can mislead you. They are all over the place and change. Or, you can knock on the door of friends, and that’s okay if your friends are godly and are listening to God’s Spirit themselves. But the first door you should knock on is God’s door, the door of the Holy Spirit and say, God, show me the way.

As we listen for the Spirit’s prompting, He doesn’t speak audibly; He knows that would freak us out, so He speaks with subtle promptings in our heart and mind. Over time, you learn to listen for that voice. You can also be assured that God’s Spirit will always agree with His word. If it doesn’t, it’s not the Spirit’s voice your hearing. This is not a formula for an easy and painless life but an assurance of being in God’s will. Daniel was in God’s will when he was in the fiery furnace and Paul was in God’s will as he sat in a Roman prison. God knows if we didn’t encounter painful and difficult situations in life, we wouldn’t seek help or see our need for a counselor.
