What to Do When There Seems to Be No Way, Part 2

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

If God is going to make a way where there seems to be no way, I must first pray and ask the Maker to make a way and, then, perceive itPerceive that the Maker is making a way!  To perceive it, I must believe that the Maker can make a way!  That’s why the Psalmist in Psalms 121:1-2, tells us to refocus our attention and lift our eyes to the Maker of heaven and earth.  Do you believe He is able to help you? Do you trust Him to help you?

Isaiah takes it a step further.  In order to perceive that the Maker is making a way, I must quit dwelling on the past!  He says,

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

I can’t see what God has ahead of me if I keep looking behind me.  To perceive what God is doing, I must see it with spiritual eyes. This is the faith focus!  “God, I don’t know how You are going to do it or when You’re going to do it, but I trust that You are the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth and You are going to do a new thing!  According to Your promises, I am looking to You in faith believing that, despite my circumstances, despite my past failures, You are making a way for me in this wilderness.” I love the last part of that verse.  “I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”  If you feel like you’re living in a barren wasteland, begin looking for the streams of mercy that God will provide.  That leads us to the final step for God to make a way where there seems to be no way. Prepare.

Prepare for the Maker to make a way!  If I’m perceiving God will make a way, I need to prepare for it!  How? I’ve discovered two ways in my life that I can prepare for God to make a way.  It begins with obedience. Oswald Chambers said, “Obey God in the thing He shows you, and instantly the next thing is opened up.  One reads tomes (academic volumes) on the work of the Holy Spirit, when one five minutes of drastic obedience would make things as clear as a sunbeam… The tiniest fragment of obedience, and heaven opens, and the profoundest truths of God are yours straight away.  God will never reveal more truth about Himself until you have obeyed what you know already.” (My Utmost for His Highest, October 10th)

Are there areas of disobedience in my life that are blocking the Maker from making a way?  Are we asking God to make a way for us financially when we are not giving back to God? Are we asking Him to make a way for us in a relationship when we are living in impurity?  Could it be that, instead of waiting for God to make a way, He is waiting on us to obey?

There’s a final step God would have us take for Him to make a way that we will see tomorrow in part three.
