“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” ― Jim Elliot
God wants to bless you. God wants to meet your needs. God wants to work in your heart and life so that you can be a real blessing. We are praying that you will be the greatest blessing to the world because you’re blessed to be a blessing. Jim Elliot was a missionary in the 1950s who was a brilliant linguistic expert. He and several missionaries went to the Waodani Indian tribe in the jungles of Ecuador, to the most violent tribe on the face of the earth at the time. They made contact with them to share the love of Jesus, but then something went terribly wrong. Each of the missionaries, including Jim Elliot, was killed. In the newspapers and in the radio and television, they said these guys were dumb. What were they thinking? What a waste. They were foolish to think they could reach this tribe. These brilliant people now have lost their life.
But, Jim Elliot said this, years before. “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” This quote tops them all by far because that whole tribe of the Waodani came to know Jesus Christ, and they stopped their violence. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the very one who killed Jim Elliot and his friends. Menkia, the great warrior, is a lover of Jesus Christ, and his whole life is changed. “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” That’s just being smart; living for Jesus, loving for Jesus, giving for Jesus. Lord, we thank You that we only have one life, and it will soon be past, and only what’s done for You will last, and we pray that You would help us do the lasting things and reach the lost for Your kingdom! What are you doing to live out “to give what you cannot keep and gain that which you cannot lose”?
