The Pursuit of Christ’s Character

God created all mankind in His likeness. Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God said let us make man in our image and our likeness. So, God created man in His own image. In the image of God He created them, male and female, He created them.” That means we have the capacity to have a relationship with God. It also means we have the capacity to grow spiritually. We’re not just flesh and blood. We’re not just a physical body. We are a spiritual creation.

Spiritual growth is real simple. It means becoming more like Christ. He made us in His image and we are to grow to be more and more like Him each and every day. Spiritual growth means that this time next year you will be more like Christ because His Spirit dwells in you.

1 Corinthians 2:15-16 says, “The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one, ‘For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.”

Spiritual growth is not about Bible knowledge, the Bible was not written just to increase my knowledge. It was written to point me to my Creator and change my life. Spiritual growth is Christ’s character lived out in my life.  It allows Him to chip away all the rough edges that don’t look like my Savior. When you love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, you will become more like Christ.
