The Power of Genuine Faith – Part 1

And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ.” Philemon 1:6 (NLT)

God never intended faith to merely be an attitude but an adventure! The Bible was not written to increase our knowledge but to change our lives. That’s the power of genuine faith! It’s not about words spoken as much as a life lived. Does that describe your faith? Is it dynamic or static? Our lives communicate a message that shouts louder than what we say. That’s why the Apostle Paul challenged his friend Philemon to live out his faith, putting it into action so that he would experience all the good things he had in Christ! We will never really experience all those good things we have in Christ until we live the message we believe. God is calling His people to be the message, to live the sermon, so the world, that is sick of hearing sermons, may see a sermon lived out! How can we be the message? How do we experience the power of genuine faith at work in and through our everyday lives? If I am going to be the message I must ask and answer some tough questions and be honest with myself.

Here’s the first question to answer: What will be the core of my faith? Everyone has faith, even atheists. It’s not whether or not you have faith so much as it is the object of your faith that matters. The object of your faith is your core, your center. If your core is solid, you will stand the tests that life brings. What is the center of your life? In 2 Corinthians 5:14 it says, “Christ’s love has the first and last word in everything we do. Our firm decision is to work from this focused center.” If Christ is the center of your life, you won’t crater. He will hold you together because He never changes, and He can never be taken away. Genuine faith has power because Jesus is the core. The good news is that you can invite Christ to be the center of your life and experience the power of genuine faith. Just as the Word became flesh and lived among us two thousand years ago, Jesus longs to clothe Himself with our humanity today and put His glory on display through our lives enabling us to be the message! The Bible says, “This is the assigned moment for (Christ) to move into the center of our lives ….” John 3:30 MSG Experience the adventure of faith by letting Christ move into the center of your life!
