Living Water – The God Hunt, Day 40

“At night my soul longs to be with You, and the spirit in me wants to be with You at the dawn of every new day. When Your way of justice comes to the world, people will learn the right way of living.”  Isaiah 26:9 (ETRV)

I hope you’ve been as blessed as I have on this Soul Safari. For the past 40 days we’ve been on a God hunt for the Big Five that our souls long for the most – Purpose, Rest, Hope, Belonging, and Integrity.  The Scriptures have been our guide in this Spiritual Serengeti.  We’ve been challenged to begin and end each day on our knees to frame our day’s journey and keep us connected with God.

As we wrap up this expedition, I’m challenged by a passage in Isaiah 26:9. It says, “At night my soul longs to be with You, and the spirit in me wants to be with You at the dawn of every new day. When Your way of justice comes to the world, people will learn the right way of living.”

Like the Serengeti, our world is filled with danger and snares. Predators and poachers seek to steal, kill, and destroy. Sometimes, it makes us wonder if God is really in control when we see so much chaos and pain around us. Isaiah tells us that one day justice will come – God’s justice.  When His way of justice comes to this world, Isaiah says, people will learn the right way of living. Left to ourselves, we are lost in a jungle of stress and confusion. We don’t know the right way of living. This is why our souls greatest longing is to connect with God.  I love the way Isaiah described the desire of his soul – “At night my soul longs to be with You, and the spirit in me wants to be with You at the dawn of every new day….”  Have you felt such a longing in your own soul?  Do you have a desire to connect with God like that? When you lie in bed at night, do you long to be with Him? In the morning, is He the first one you turn to? Do you have a real passion for God? I hope as we wrap up this soul safari, you’ll continue to frame your day on your knees – the first thing in the morning and as the last thing you do at night before you sleep.

Life’s Serengeti can distract our souls from what they long for the most. If we are to experience the Big Five, all we need is Jesus!  Purpose, rest, hope, belonging, and integrity are all found in Christ! It’s that simple. When you have Christ, He satisfies the desire of your soul! From Him, we learn the right way of living.  I love the way Jesus put it in His invitation to all whose souls are thirsty, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. For the Scriptures declare that rivers of living water shall flow from the inmost being of anyone who believes in Me.” John 7:37-38 (TLB)

How thirsty are you? Drink from the living water and your soul will be satisfied!
