“May God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace through your faith in Him. Then you will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (GW)
In the Serengeti, the one primary life source every animal depends on is water. As seasons of drought come, they find themselves in desperate search for a water source to sustain them. Our souls are in such a hunt for hope. We can’t live without hope. This week in our God Hunt we will discover the only source of hope that can sustain us in life and enable us to turn hopeless situations into hope-filled ones!
Maybe you’re in a seemingly hopeless situation as you read this. It could be a hopeless marriage, the loss of your job, or a crisis in your health. Whether it’s the hopelessness you feel when you see a loved one going the wrong direction in life and you can’t turn them around, or your own life is spinning out of control, we can find hope in the source of hope!
The Apostle Paul was speaking out of his own experience when he wrote this to the church in Rome. It’s really a prayer he prayed for them that will encourage us as well, no matter what we’re going through. He prayed this in Romans 15:13, “May God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace through your faith in Him. Then you will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
He wasn’t just offering them a little hope to cope; he was directing them to the source of hope – an endless supply! With the world dying for one drop of hope, Paul is pointing us to an ocean of hope! He said that when we connect to that source of hope we will be filled with joy and peace! Joy and peace flow from the source of hope when we put our faith in Christ. In fact, we find all three persons of the Godhead at the source of hope! God is the source of hope filling us with joy and peace through our faith in Christ, and by the power of the Holy Spirit we can overflow with hope!
Would you like to overflow with hope? You can when you connect with the source of hope through faith in Christ. With God, you are with hope! What is it you’re facing today that is draining your hope? Commit that to God in prayer. Turn to the source to fill you with hope until you overflow. When you do, you’ll discover that overflowing hope is contagious! It will spread to others and bring the hope they desperately need as well! That kind of hope is not natural to us. We can’t generate it on our own with just positive thoughts. It is the fruit of the Spirit of God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. When you put your faith in Him you can begin singing the song of hope. We’ll discover more about the song of hope tomorrow on our God Hunt. Don’t miss it. It’s a tune you’ll never quit singing!
