The Day of Salvation

You may not know this, but you’re in eternity right now. There’s this side of eternity and after we leave this earth, there’s the other side. Now this side may last sixty, seventy, or eighty years. Our time here is limited. 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “Indeed the right time is now. Today is the day of salvation.” So eternity starts now. When we die, we just change locations, but everything we do this side of eternity impacts the other side of eternity. In the last stanza of Amazing Grace we sing these words:

When we’ve been here ten thousand years; Bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise; Than when we’ve first begun.

Eternity lasts forever. We have a small window of time on this side of eternity, which has already begun. The interesting thing is, what we do on this side of eternity determines our eternal future. What we do with our time, talent, and treasure determines our rewards in heaven and what we do with Jesus Christ determines where we spend eternity.

In Revelation 3:20 Jesus said, “Here I am. I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me.” For some of you, Jesus has been knocking on the door of your heart for some time. For some of you, maybe today is the first time you have heard him. He doesn’t knock physically; He knocks spiritually with little tugs to draw you to what’s most important. He gives you little glimpses of himself. Some of you have never opened the door of your heart. It’s time for you to let Him cleanse you, renew you, and forgive you. Today is the day of salvation!
