“May the Master of Peace Himself give you the gift of getting along with each other at all times, in all ways. May the Master be truly among you!” 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (MSG)
If you want to resolve your conflicts and experience a deeper connection than you ever thought possible, this final ground rule for fighting fair is essential! It’s really the secret to getting along with others at all times. Invite the Master of Peace into your corner!
What would happen if you backed up, for just a moment, in the conflicts you see yourself in today and invited the Master of Peace to be your tag-team partner? What would happen if we did that from the very beginning before we even engaged in a conflict? Jesus knew that we would encounter conflict and troubles. In John 16:33, Jesus said,
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Peace doesn’t mean the absence of conflict. Peace is what Jesus offers in the midst of conflict and trouble when you invite the Master of Peace into your corner. In order to experience His peace, we must first embrace His grace. Most of the New Testament letters begin with a simple statement like this:
“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Phil. 1:2 (NIV)
It’s important to note that grace always precedes peace. In order to experience the peace of God, I need to receive the grace of God. Grace offers me forgiveness, something I don’t deserve! Without grace, I’ll never know peace. If you’re at war in your heart, you’ll be at war in your relationships. In James, the Bible says,
“You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.” James 4:2b (NIV)
If you want to end the fight and experience a deeper connection than you ever thought possible, invite the Master of Peace into your corner and receive His grace. The Bible says,
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV2011)
When you receive the free gift of God’s grace, you have the Master of Peace in your corner!
