As Christ followers, we can always step into the future with faith. Faith invites us to look forward, not backward. It doesn’t take faith to look back, only to look ahead and trust that God is always with us. He tells us, “You will go through deserts but I will make a way for you and guide you in difficult situations and confusing times. I will develop streams in the wasteland for you.” When we thank God for things that He does, that is gratitude. That’s great! But, when you thank God for something that He hasn’t done yet, believing He is going to work, that is called faith.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
We thank God in advance and we speak into the future. I’m not talking about the power of positive thinking. I’m talking about the power of positive faith, faith in God to come through in your life. We speak in faith, but we’ve also got to step out in faith. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Heb. 11:2.) Faith often requires a bit of courage. Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is moving ahead in spite of my fears, regardless of what the news says or how our circumstances look. Faith is what the Christian life is all about.
