Who Will You Stand With?

“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” John 17:21 (NLT)

I love the lyrics of the song I heard not long ago that described so well the commitment the early church had to one another through the most difficult of times! The song is simply called, “I Will Stand With You”. As you read the lyrics ask yourself the question, who am I standing with like this?

“I will stand with you. We will fight the fight. I will stand with you through the darkest night. I will stand with you as God gives us might. Hand in hand, hand in hand we will stand.

I will stand with you. We will fight the fight. I will stand with you through the darkest night. I will stand with you as God gives us might. Hand in hand, hand in hand we will stand.

When life can overwhelm you and the tears well in your eyes and you wish that you could find a place that you could run away and hide; I’ll be there to hold your hand up and to gently lead you home, in the family of God, in the family of God, in the family of God you’re not alone!

I will stand with you. We will fight the fight. I will stand with you through the darkest night. I will stand with you as God gives us might. Hand in hand, hand in hand we will stand.

When you’re tired of the battle, feeling worn out to the bone, and you feel like you’ve been fending off the arrows on your own; close your eyes and see the angels who are fighting brave and bold in the family of God, in the family of God, in the family of God, you’re not alone!

I will stand with you. We will fight the fight. I will stand with you through the darkest night. I will stand with you as God gives us might. Hand in hand, hand in hand we will stand.

I will stand with you. We will fight the fight. I will stand with you through the darkest night. I will stand with you as God gives us might. Hand in hand, hand in hand we will stand. Hand in hand, hand in hand we will stand!”

We all long for someone to stand with us like this. For that to happen we need to stand with others. When we stand together God uses us to accomplish His purposes in the world! We can always accomplish more together than what we can alone! A big church can make a huge difference. But it takes more than just a crowd. It requires a commitment in each of our hearts to do what we can do, to give what we can give and as each of us does our part, God blesses it in huge ways!

Who are you standing with? Perhaps God is nudging you even now to connect with the local church and become an active member; to move from being a consumer to a contributor; from asking what can the church do for me and begin asking how God may use you in the church to accomplish His purpose. The moment you accept that challenge your life will never be the same.
