Do you remember in the New Testament where some of the disciples were arguing about who got to be at Jesus’ right hand in the Kingdom in Heaven? James and John, who were called the sons of thunder because they had tempers, were saying, “We ought to be there, both of us, on the right and the left.” Even their Mom got in the action and said, “You know my sons are just great. They should really be the ones right next to Jesus.” Then the other disciples found out what James and John were doing and they got really upset and said, “Why not us? I mean, we’re as good as you guys.” Everybody was arguing about who should be right next to Jesus. And Jesus said, “Hey, that’s not for you to know. That will be decided later.”
The great eternal reversal is coming. The people who will be most acknowledged in heaven will probably be the least known here on earth. God wants us to serve him from the heart without comparing ourselves with others. Mark 9:33-35 says, “’When they came to Capernaum, he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?’ But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, ‘If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.’” What are our motives for doing what we do in the name of Christ? Are you prepared for the great eternal reversal?
