“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” 1 Peter 1:18, 19 (NLT)
How do you know how much something is worth? Its value is determined by what someone else is willing to pay for it. How much are you worth? The cross of Jesus Christ says you are worth dying for! Peter put it like this in 1 Peter 1:18, 19 (NLT)
“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.”
He didn’t pay a hundred billion dollars for you. He paid so much more! Every drop of His precious blood demonstrates your value to God! He paid the highest price to ransom and redeem you and me from an empty way of life! This passage not only speaks to your worth but also to your purpose! God ransomed you and me for a Divine destiny! He calls us into the business of people building! It’s what our world desperately needs today. There are only two types of people: those who build up and those who tear down. Which type are you? Those who build up others understand their worth and purpose. The only answer for our confused and conflicted culture is a spiritual one. It’s not economic, educational or political. It is deeply spiritual because God made us, and we are dysfunctional without Him. We wander aimlessly without hope, without purpose and meaning without Him. To a lost and hopeless world spinning out of control, God says, “You have value! I created you! I paid the supreme sacrifice to ransom you and save you from an empty life and give your life purpose and meaning!” When we come to Christ and see the demonstration of God’s unconditional love at the cross, our lives are filled with meaning, hope and a future! We find value and worth in Him! Through His indwelling presence we are empowered for a purpose greater than we could possibly imagine! The writer of Hebrews describes our new life and purpose in Christ like this:
“In response to all He has done for us, let us outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other and in doing good.” Hebrews 10:24 (TLB)
That’s what people builders do! With a sense of confidence in knowing whose they are and where they are going, they outdo each other in being helpful and kind! Do you do that? Look for ways you can today! Recognize your worth to God. Consider the price He paid for you and thank Him that Jesus shed His precious blood to ransom you from an empty way of life to a life filled with purpose and meaning! Then, ask Him for ways you can be helpful and kind to others. Opportunities to do good are all around us! Be a relationship builder! A small act of kindness can make a world of difference!
