According to one definition, the term “passion bucket” describes the amount of energy or love one has for a certain object, event, or theme. The more you have, the fuller your bucket. We all want our lives to be full of passion and purpose, to feel like we’re making valuable contributions, and to have confirmation that we’re on the right path. Below, Luke records a discussion that occurred shortly after Christ’s resurrection between two apostles who found the right path for their passion:
Back and forth they talked. “Didn’t we feel on fire [the passion] as He conversed with us on the road, as He opened up the Scriptures for us?” Luke 24:32 (MSG)
“There are two great days in a person’s life – the day we are born and the day we discovery why.” William Barclay, Scottish theologian. The apostle Paul knew his why and accomplished amazing things in his two decades of ministry. How did he do it? Effective leaders, like Paul, are those who have figured out their purpose and pursue it with a passion, even in the midst of adversity.
I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with Himself depends on faith. Philippians 3:7-9 (NLT)
Passion produces energy, drives vision, and opens the doors for new opportunities in your life. After all, it’s passionate people who are willing to step up to the plate and take the biggest leaps of faith moving forward. In his most recent New York Times bestseller, Destiny: Step into Your Purpose, Bishop T.D. Jakes states it very precisely: “If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose”.
You have a great opportunity to hear Bishop T.D. Jakes and other passionate leaders and learn more about how to fill your passion bucket by joining us at the 2016 Global Leadership Summit on August 11th and 12th at our Woodlands or Atascocita campus.
