“Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.” Jeremiah 33:3 (MSG)
It’s frustrating trying to figure things out on your own. Not being that much of a handyman you would think I would rely on instructions; but, I don’t find them that helpful either. What I need is someone to come alongside me and show me what to do. Better still, wouldn’t it be awesome if they could just impart that knowledge? You would not only know what to do but you would have the ability to do it! God never intended for us to live our lives independent of Him. That’s called sin in the Bible, and the result leaves us frustrated. We were created by God and for God. In fact, we are dysfunctional when we are separated from God. Because we were created in His image and after His likeness, we need God’s Spirit to indwell us to reach our God-given potential. Yet, so often we still try to figure out everything on our own.
Spend some time in today’s Lectio Divina reconsidering the invitation God offers you in Jeremiah 33:3. Only God can know the future. Despite the bleak circumstances that the Prophet Jeremiah and the people of Israel were facing, God was at work. He didn’t want Jeremiah to lose heart so He gives Him this promise. What was true for Jeremiah is true for us today. Regardless of how impossible the situation you may be facing, God offers a simple invitation. Spend some time today in your Lectio Divina to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you. Share with Him what you are going through and can’t figure out on your own. Ask Him for His counsel. Let God speak to your heart and renew your mind. The breakthrough you need may only be a prayer away!
Read the verse again and just relax as you learn to listen and depend on God to tell you what you need to know.
