“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)
Aren’t you glad Jesus didn’t come to start another religion? Christianity is not a system of beliefs. Faith is our response to His invitation. Jesus says, “Come to me.” I love that. It’s a personal invitation, and He delivered it Himself. How awesome is that? So, if you’re tired and worn out from trying to find God through religion or have begun to substitute a system of beliefs for the intimacy of a relationship, then take a moment now to read this passage out loud to yourself. What in this verse really speaks to you? Read it several more times with emphasis on different parts so the Holy Spirit can share insights you may not otherwise notice. What does He want you to do as a result of what you’ve read?
As you read the passage again, begin to relax and rest in His presence. Enter that rest He offers and let Him recover your life. Keep company with Jesus throughout the day.
