One Month to Love | Day 1

“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (NASB)

Tired of resolutions that don’t work? Want to get your life on track in 2013 but don’t know how? Join me for the next 30 days in a spiritual journey that promises to impact your life — body, soul and spirit — as well as your relationships. I’m calling it One Month To Love.

To experience God’s love we must recover the forgotten art of Christian meditation. It’s called Lectio Divina. Unlike Eastern meditation or some New Age thing that requires you to empty your mind and sit mindlessly, Lectio Divina is a Latin term that means “Divine” or “sacred” reading of God’s Word. It uses scripture to fill your mind with God’s thoughts and silence to invite God’s presence and direction into your life. I want to challenge you for the next 30 days to join me in reclaiming this forgotten art and recording the benefits you experience. Here’s what we’ll do:

1. Pray and ask God to renew your mind with His truth.

2. Read the verse out loud slowly.

3. Read the verse a second time and ask,
“What in this verse speaks to my life?”

4. Read the verse a third time and ask God,
“What do you want me to do differently today?”

5. Read the verse a fourth time. This time just rest in God’s presence and let His Word refresh you.

These daily encounters with God will change your thinking; and when you change the way you think, it will change your life.

I’m glad you’re joining me for this journey. It’s so much more exciting and effective when we do it together. I want to hear back from you. How are you doing? What are the greatest challenges you are facing? As you connect with God daily in your Lectio Divina, what impact is the Holy Spirit beginning to make in your thinking, your behavior and your relationships? This is measureable personal growth to celebrate! At first it may not even appear all that significant but God’s Word tells us not to despise the day of small things. Little by little as He teaches your mind and you begin to renew your thinking, you will see God at work reflecting His image and likeness through you. Others will begin to notice maybe even before you do! Let God renew your mind with His Word daily. I’ll see you tomorrow. Share with me your thoughts as well in the comment box below.
