Obey God in the Present

If we are really going to experience God’s grace then we have to learn to listen and obey, that is what Moses did. Exodus 4:4 says:

“… So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.”

He throws down the staff and it turns into a snake. Then God said:  Pick it up. But in fear, Moses runs away. Obedience is a step by step decision. There are times when God asks us to do something that makes complete sense but there are also times when things will not make sense. Throwing down the staff was easy but picking up the snake did not seem very smart. Either way we are to obey and give it to Him, because He knows what is best. The unknown is usually what keeps us from obeying God fully. But our God is a loving father who will never leave us as we step out in faith.

God will take something ordinary and turn it into something extraordinary. Moses would no longer need the staff to tend sheep. It was no longer an old shepherd’s staff. When God gave it back to him, it was the same mighty staff of God that Moses used to touch the Nile River and turn it to blood. It was the same mighty staff of God that Moses used to raise above the Red Sea, and part it right down the middle to deliver the Israelites. It was the same mighty staff of God that Moses raised above the enemies of God and won the victory for Israel. It was no longer a shepherd’s staff. It was the mighty staff of God. When you give something to God and He gives it back to you, He changes it for His glory and His purpose. You can trust Him. He knows what is best.
