I find it interesting that when God set His people free, Moses lead them out into the desert. He is not out there tending sheep. He is leading thousands of Israelites and they arrive at the Red Sea. Most of you have seen the movie The Ten Commandments. You know what happens. The Egyptian army chases down the Israelites and they are trapped against the Red Sea. Moses starts praying to God, praying for God’s deliverance, and God says something here that does not sound very spiritual. Exodus 14 verses 15 and 16 say:
“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to Me? (Why are you praying?) Tell the Israelites to move on.’”
God was basically saying: Why are you praying? Just get up, shut up, and move on man. I am paving the way for you. And then He says:
“’Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.’”
Sometimes when we pray, God tells us to take the next step of faith. The Bible tells us what we are to do. Almost every decision that we will have to make is mentioned in the Bible. God tells us how we are to obey Him in our relationships, in our finances, and with our time. He tells us that we are to have time with Him every day. We are not to forsake weekly worship. Mark Twain once said, “It is not the parts of the Bible I don’t understand that bother me. It is the parts I understand clearly that bother me.” God gives us His instructions and now we just have to take a step and obey.
So what is the next step for you? You don’t have to pray about the next step. Just take that step and obey and God will open up the sea and part the barrier and knock it down. It is never a blind leap of faith; it is a step of faith. Then, you will be where you never thought you could be. Taking those steps of faith will propel you into your future. What is the step of faith God wants you to take?
