“Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours but God’s.” 2 Chronicles 20: 15b (NLT)

One of the most formidable weapons the Enemy has against a Christ follower is discouragement. It often happens when we feel overwhelmed! Mothers of preschoolers know what I’m talking about. They finish picking up the room, and it’s instantly a mess again! The clothes are folded and put away, and then they are dirty again. About the time the dishes are done, it’s time for the next meal! Maybe the battle you are facing is even more discouraging. The diagnosis isn’t good. The company is downsizing, and your position has been eliminated. Your husband or wife has lost interest in the marriage and wants out. There are more bills at the end of the month than you can handle. Discouragement can come in many ways. Life is full of battles.

When King Jehoshaphat faced overwhelming odds, he was naturally afraid. That’s human! Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is stepping out in faith – despite my fears. But how do you do that? God told King Jehoshaphat,

“Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours but God’s”

You and I can overcome discouragement if we give the battle over to God. The main reason we become overwhelmed is because we forget that the battle is the Lord’s. It’s not our battle. Give it to God.

  3. Matthew Thrush says:

When all is said and done, no matter what difficulties or struggles we face in this world, in the end, we win. Some situations feel as though the world is pressing you down and to give up to or die would solve all of your problems. But remember, the darkness is the strongest just before the light. And God promises to redeem you and raise you from the ashes just as a phoenix does when it’s reborn.

You too can be reborn, every day, every minute, every second. The more we lean on God and trust him no matter our emotions or feelings, He always come through. Look for the small victories in life. They are all around us. These will help you gain momentum and strength to resist the temptations of the devil and his lies. You’re a child of the living God. You have authority over everything through Jesus’ name.

Declare your freedom and live by faith in the likeness of God.
