Live in the Present

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”  Isaiah 43:19a

The new opportunities God gives us are found in the power of now and by enjoying and embracing the moment. Often, that big opportunity looks a little mundane. It is that chance to interact with one of your kids, that time to speak with someone at work and tell them how you appreciate them. Initially, they might seem like a big interruption because you’ve got things to do, but those are the opportunities God gives you to experience His blessings. We miss the moment over and over again.

We often look for the next big thing in the future, and we miss the opportunity to embrace what God has for us today. We get caught in what my wife and I call the someday syndrome. Someday, when I get through this problem, then I’ll really do the things that are most important. Someday, when I get through this situation, I’ll really enjoy life. The one we always said was, “Someday, when things settle down, we’ll really get to it.” Then we realized things never settle down. Who are you kidding? Someday is today. Now is the time.

2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “I tell you now is the time of God’s favor. Now is the day of salvation.” I love that. Procrastination is one of our greatest barriers to God’s blessing.  We don’t say no to God, we say yes to God, but just not now. Some of you decided to surrender your life to Christ and become a Christian, just not now. Maybe someday I’m going to do that. Now is all you have. Now is the moment of salvation. Now is the time. Now is the opportunity. Now is all we have.
