Learning through Affliction

Sometimes you can only learn from being burned. When you were a kid and your parents told you not to touch the hot stove, what did you do? Well, some of you listened and stayed away, but some of you touched the hot stove. You made it a point to do that. That wasn’t real smart, was it. Sometimes we only learn by being burned and some things we learn only by going through pain. We often only learn the value of something by losing it. You learn the value of money by losing it. You learn the value of a relationship by losing it. God teaches us through the pain and the problems. C. S. Lewis said pain is the greatest teacher. It’s so true. In Psalm 119, David said, “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn Your decrees.” Are you teachable?
