Jonah: Part II

After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD. Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. ” Jonah 1:3-4 (NIV)

Whenever you run from God, as Jonah did, there are crashing waves and things always get rocky. That’s because God loves you so much, He’ll do whatever it takes to get your attention. He will go to extremes to get us to obey Him. Whenever I disobey and run from God, it gets pretty rocky in my life very quickly. He wants to turn me around because He loves me. The most dangerous place to ever be is running from God and to have everything going great in your life. That’s when God begins to take His hands off of you, when He says, “Hey, there’s nothing else I can do”. But whenever things are going bad in your life while you’re running from God, that’s good news, it means that God is really trying to get your attention. He’s working in your life. And you know what? Disobedience denies blessing.

You see, God told Jonah to go one way to Nineveh, but he goes the opposite direction, he chose to go west. The moment he turned away from God was the moment that he got out of God’s will. And when I get out of God’s will it blocks God’s blessing in my life. Obedience brings blessing. Disobedience blocks blessing. See, God wants to bless you. God wants to open doors of opportunity for you. God has a great plan for you. God had a great plan for Jonah to go preach to the Ninevites and see a whole community saved, a whole world changed for God’s glory. But Jonah didn’t get it, he didn’t understand it, he didn’t want to do it, so he ran away from God. The moment he stepped away from God he derailed God’s purposes in his life.

There is no problem than can derail God’s purpose in your life. There is no tragedy that can derail God’s purpose in your life. There is no pain that can derail God’s purpose in your life. But YOU can derail God’s purpose in your life. You can choose to go the opposite direction. You can take a step out of God’s will and block God’s blessings in your life.

Today, let’s choose to be obedient to Him. Lord, I want to be obedient to you. Help me to always choose to stay in Your will for my life and not run from the blessings you have for me even when things seem hard!
