“I promise you what I promised Moses; wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you.” Joshua 1:3 (NLT)
God told Joshua to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River and into the Promised Land, and He gave Joshua an amazing promise. God told Joshua that the Promised Land was already his, but he needed to step into it and claim it.
As we are seeking to make changes in our lives during this Inside Out Project, it’s important to remember that we have the same promise. Jesus Christ, through His death on the cross, has already won for us the victory over our painful hurts from the past and our destructive habits in the present. The victory is ours, but we have to step into it and claim what Christ has already won for us.
We must step out of the wilderness of willpower and into the promised land of God’s power in order to change. To step into the land of God’s power, we must go through the river of surrender. The Israelites had to cross the Jordan River to get to the Promised Land. The Jordan River was at flood stage and impossible to cross, but God told them to step into the river, and He would work a miracle.
The Jordan River became a river of surrender for the Israelites as they had to totally trust God and His power to get them across. When we surrender control of our lives to God on a moment-by-moment basis, we experience His power to change. When we step out of the wilderness of willpower and go through the river of surrender, we step into the promised land of God’s power and victory.
//Prayer: Dear God, I admit I’m powerless to change, and I can’t control my life. I surrender to your care and control today, and I step out of the wilderness of willpower and surrender to your control. Today, I step in faith into your promised land of victory, strength, joy and discipline. In Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen.
