“‘Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, and your entire household.’ Then they told him and all his household the Good News from the Lord. That same hour…he and all his family were baptized.” Acts 16:31-33 (TLB)
Through the years, it has been one of my greatest honors to baptize entire families at our Super Summer Baptism Celebrations. It’s not uncommon to see three and four generations of one family in the water all being baptized together! I can’t think of anything better than to see families restored by the grace of God! This was the case for the Philippian jailer that asked his prisoners, Paul and Silas, how to be saved in Acts 16. They were the ones incarcerated and yet they were more free than the jailer who guarded them! The jailer was struck by the remarkable peace and joy that these apostles had despite their mistreatment and persecution. When he asked what he must do to have what they had, Paul simply said with confident hope,
“Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, and your entire household.” Acts 16:31 (TLB)
Later that night, these same apostles would share the Good News of God’s love and grace through Jesus to this jailer’s family, and wouldn’t you know it – everyone in his household received Christ as their Savior and were immediately baptized! Wow! What an experience for an entire family to be changed and baptized together!
This was a similar experience for Lawrence and so many others we had the privilege of baptizing as families.
Sometimes, it just begins with one person in the family willing to take a risk of faith. Maybe that person is you. Risk sharing your experience with Jesus with your family and encourage them to take that step in believer’s baptism with you at our Super Summer Baptism 2 Celebration this weekend, June 22nd and 23rd.
