Fresh Prayer

Fresh faith is the only kind of faith that’s appealing. Stale faith is not appealing to anyone. Fresh faith is the only kind of faith that’s active and alive. Fresh faith is the only kind of faith that makes a difference in the world. Sometimes we just need to revive our stale faith. Because there are times in my life where, I have to be honest, I’m not so passionate about my relationship with God, and God seems distant, and it seems like my faith gets stale. Most of the time I’m really passionate in my walk with the Lord, and it feels like God is right there with me constantly, and I see him working in my life, and my faith is alive, and it’s fresh, but there are times when my faith gets stale. I don’t know if you can relate to that or not, but I suspect that there are times when every believer goes through that. The real question is how do I hit the refresh button on my faith?

In his book, Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire, Jim Cymbala talks about the power of prayer in rejuvenating a stale faith. Cymbala says that, “Prayer begets revival, which begets more prayer.” In my own life I have found that one of the most consistent sources of fresh faith is found in prayer. A lot of times it is easy for us to pray in a casual manner, at dinner or bedtime. But when is the last time you have taken time to really connect with God? I challenge you to really consider your prayer life and how important it is to keeping your faith from getting stale. Have you ever walked into a closed room and immediately realized that the air was stale? When you open the window and a cool breeze blows through it rejuvenates the entire room and breathes life into the environment. Prayer is the open window of your spirit. When you pray to your Father you are opening that window wide and allowing God’s fresh breeze into your soul.

If today you find yourself in need of a fresh faith (and most of us are!) then I challenge you to pray for the kind of vibrant, fresh, exhilarating faith that God wants you to have. The Bible says that when we pray God will give us the desires of our heart. Ask God to give you the desire for fresh faith and a renewed relationship with him! I want to know how prayer has impacted your life, let me know in the comments!
