Forty Days to Flourish: Day 9

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

Yesterday, we began our second week of Forty Days to Flourish with a new verse for our meditation this week. As you read it, you’ll want to give emphasis to each word. Not only will that make it easier to memorize, but you will discover spiritual insights that will nourish your soul.

On Monday, we focused on the word “if” and discovered that the promise of this passage is determined by our own response. If we want a new beginning, we can have one. If we want to shed the weight of our past mistakes and failures and get a fresh start, it’s possible! And, if you think that’s good news, just wait – it gets even better!

As you recite the verse today, give emphasis to the word “anyone.” I love the inclusiveness of that word. Being in Christ isn’t limited to a certain group of people or type of person. Being in Christ is not exclusively for the religious. No matter who you are, no matter what you’ve done in the past, the invitation to be in Christ is available to you! I believe this was a reality that the Apostle Paul never really got over when his life was changed by his personal encounter with Jesus. When he wrote to Timothy, he said,

“This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’—and I am the worst of them all. But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of His great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in Him and receive eternal life.” 1 Timothy 1:15-16 (NLT)

I’m so thankful for that word “anyone”! It gives me hope and encouragement! Anyone means anyone! It means you as well!

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”

Anyone may experience the power of a changed life if they are in Christ.
