Forty Days to Flourish: Day 40

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

Congratulations! You’ve made it to Day 40 of our Forty Days to Flourish weekly scripture meditations! Great job! As you nourish your mind with God’s Word daily, you begin to flourish in every area of life! Keep it up! One of the best ways to do that is through fellowship with like-minded people. Sharing the insights you gain from meditating on Scripture and hearing insights from others will enable you to continue to thrive.

Did you notice how Paul began this command in Philippians 4:8? With a term of endearment, he addressed his readers as “dear brothers and sisters….” My favorite metaphor for the church in the bible is that of a family! We are the family of God! If you truly desire to flourish in your faith, in life, in your relationships, in your finances, in your family, you need the fellowship, accountability and encouragement of a church family.

Living in a fallen and sinful world makes it difficult to think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Our minds are bombarded with negative and destructive thoughts. To fix our thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise, we need God’s Word and God’s people to stay focused. That’s why consistent connection with a church family is so important. Together, we worship the only One who is excellent and worthy of praise. As His Spirit indwells us and His truth enlightens us we can flourish with a fellowship that attracts the world to Christ! Are you part of such a church family? If not, decide now to find one this weekend, and get connected with other brothers and sisters in Christ. Seek out a small group within that church with like-minded Christ followers that are committed to growing in Christ. As you do, you’ll move beyond surviving to really thriving in all areas of your life. I love the way the Psalmist describes it in Psalm 92:12-13:

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.”

If you’re in the Houston area, we would love to see you at Woodlands Church. This weekend, we are celebrating life change with our big Winter Baptism in our heated baptismal pool. If you or someone you know is ready to take that next step of faith, you can register now!
