“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” Prov. 3:5-6 (NLT)
How do you know which path to take in life? What is the will of God? These are among the most asked questions of a Christ follower. When your heart is tender toward God, your desire is to please Him and do His will. For the most part, the Bible is crystal clear when it comes to the difference between the right and wrong path in life. (See Psalm 1 as an example.) But, when you need clarity for decisions that aren’t specifically addressed in Scripture, how do you know the will of God?
As you’ve meditated this week on Proverbs 3:5-6, you may have discovered three important steps to take to know which path God wants you to take.
Step 1: Trust in the LORD with all your heart….
Step 2: Do not depend on your own understanding.
Step 3: Seek His will in all do….
As we take these steps, we can rest in the confidence that God will show us which path to take. Sometimes, He does that through open doors of opportunity, provision, a prompting in our hearts that leaves us restless until we step out, as well as the wise counsel and encouragement of other Christ followers.
God is more concerned with the journey than the destination. In the journey, we are learning to walk by faith and not by sight. We are learning to lean on Him. We are learning that He is God, and we are growing in a more intimate and personal relationship with Him. At times, God may seem distant and heaven is silent. Don’t give up. God still guides. His greater concern is in our knowing Him than knowing His plan. He will give you all the direction you need.
