“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” Prov. 3:5-6 (NLT)
If you want your soul to flourish, this proverb is one of the best to nourish your heart and mind as you meditate on its command and promise. Remember: whatever you nourish will flourish! Carve out some time this week to meditate on this passage in Proverbs 3:5-6. These are the simple steps to meditation that we’ve been practicing the last few weeks.
- Read it.
- Recite it, phrase by phrase, giving emphasis to each phrase and considering the implications in your life.
- Memorize it so you can remember it without looking at it.
- Reflect it in every decision you make, and reap the benefit of knowing that God will direct your path.
Let’s begin with the very first phrase: “Trust in the LORD…” What are you trusting in? Are you trusting in your own ability? Your friends? Your job? Your resources? It’s not just a matter of trust that matters. What matters is in whom do you place your trust? The wisest man who ever lived, apart from Jesus, tells us to put our trust in the Lord. Is He the object of your trust? As we meditate on this passage this week, we will discover what that kind of trust looks like and how to put our trust in Him. You can apply the first part of this passage today. In simple prayer, commit your trust in the Lord. Make Him the object of your trust.
