“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
As you nourish your soul with God’s Word, you’ll begin to really thrive! If you struggle with memorizing, try taking it in bite size pieces. Someone once said, “By the inch, life’s a cinch; but, by the yard, life is hard.”
Begin with the first phrase:
Focus on that first part for a moment. Let God speak to you through His Word. This is from God Himself to you!
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity….”
Fear is not from God. Over 450 times in the Bible God says, “Fear not….” If fear is holding you back, it’s not from God. He hasn’t given you a spirit of fear and timidity. I find it encouraging that Paul writes this to a young pastor who struggled with fear. We all struggle! But, fear doesn’t have to stop us from flourishing!
What would you do with a gift that was harmful to you? You would throw it out! Get rid of it. As you nourish your soul with the truth of God’s word, you’ll stop listening to the lies of the devil.
Meditate on this first part of the passage today, and ask yourself what fears have been holding you back from boldly stepping out in faith. Read the passage and recite it out loud. Release those fears to God, and thank Him that He didn’t give them to you!
