Part of God’s creative plan is for us to live in community with others, just as He lives in community as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.Community satisfies my soul and strengthens my character. This is so important. Look at Ephesians 4:16. It says, “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly as each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” You see, our relationships with one another require us to get along with people from different backgrounds, with different personalities, with different ways of looking at life, and it is a great way to learn and grow.
“Just as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Ps 27:17
Ephesians 1:5 tells us what God’s plan has been since the very beginning. “God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.” This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure. So, since the creation of mankind, God has been forming a family. And it is within this community, the church, that he changes us.
Community also occurs when you open up your homes to others but Satan will do anything he can do to keep this from happening. The number one excuse that he will lay on you is that you are too busy. You are just doing so much and the last thing you need is another get-together. The last thing you need is people coming over to your home. The last thing you need is one more item on your to-do list. But what you don’t realize is this is your life line to the community of God. But, you have to get over the barrier of all the excuses. When you do, you’ll never regret it. You’ll realize that is what satisfies your soul. When it is all said and done, it’s about relationships, our relationship with God and our relationships with others. We are so busy doing so many things that won’t matter five years from now, much less for eternity, but we are not doing the main things, connecting to each other in community. In Romans 12:13 we are told, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” You are blessed to be a blessing. Are you ready to bless others as God has blessed you?
