Clarity From Conviction

“…But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.” 1 Cor. 3:10-15 (NIV)

There are two things about clarity that are so important. If I want brilliant focus for my life, then clarity will first come from the convictions in my life. Every day, every minute, you’re building something with your life. In verse 10 it says “But each one should be careful how he builds, for no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” There is only one foundation for a great life, for eternal life, and that’s Jesus Christ, and clarity comes from having the right foundation.

If your foundation is uncertain and unreliable, then your life will be uncertain and unreliable. If your foundation is shaky when the storms and earthquakes of life hit, then your life will crumble because your foundation is not solid. Clarity comes from your foundational beliefs, or conviction. Your foundational beliefs are what you are building your life on, what you are staking everything on, what you are counting on. Your foundation needs to be Jesus Christ because only He can change our lives.

What are our foundational beliefs? Well, we believe that life is short, eternity is long, heaven and hell are real, grace is available to everyone, and we can change the world. What are your core convictions? What are your foundational beliefs? What are you building your life on?
