Cinderella Man

It’s in every man’s heart, to really be a Cinderella Man.  A man who goes out and fights unselfishly for those he loves with no regard to his self.  A man who stands up for the values of honesty, integrity, and determination.  A man who never gives up and just doesn’t know when to quit, but he risks it all for the people he loves.

But, guys, what you ought to know is that also in every woman’s heart is a desire for her husband to be a Cinderella Man.  Every woman wants their husband to be a Cinderella Man.  Every kid wants their dad to be a Cinderella Man.  The Bible says that as men, it’s a great thing to get tough and fight for those that you love.

There is a great real life story about this in the Bible.  Nehemiah is a great story about a real Cinderella Man.  He had a cushy job in the palace.  A great job that was easy, high profile, good pay, but then he heard that his homeland was being destroyed.  It had fallen apart and he knew he had to go back and fight for those that he loved.  So, he headed back to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall.  He gathered the men; he rallied them to go rebuild the wall of Jerusalem.  When they were about half way through rebuilding it they heard that the enemies of God were going to come attack those exposed places.  The places that weren’t quite finished yet were going to be under attack.  So Nehemiah challenged the men.  He said, “Come, stand in the gap and fight for your family.”  Just look at this verse and see what it says in Nehemiah 4:13,14.

“Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows.  After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don’t be afraid of them.  Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’ ”

The number one need of most men is for significance. Deep within every man’s heart burns an intense desire to lead a life of significance.  To live a life that really matters.  That makes a difference in the world.  But I want you to know, guys, significance comes not from success.  Now most of a man’s desire for significance is put into his work.  He really puts it all towards his work thinking that’s going to bring about significance.  Now the problem is you can find success at work, but you can’t find significance unless you put God and others at the top of your priority list.

A man also needs encouragement.  Encouragement from his wife and kids and other men.  In 1 Thess. 5:11 it says “ … encourage one another and build each other up ….”

Dads, today I just want to encourage you.  That you can be a Cinderella Man.  No matter what has taken place in your life.  You may be thinking, yeah, but you don’t know my family situation right now.  Whatever has taken place in your life, the words that have been said to your wife, to your kids, whatever has taken place in your life up to this point can all change through Christ’s power.  Today you can start to be that Cinderella Man.  You can be that man that your wife has always dreamed of.  You can be that man where your daughter has a Cinderella kind of dad, Cinderella man dad, where she realizes that if she is ever treated in anyway that doesn’t respect her and build her up and encourage her, it just feels wrong, because she knows from her dad how to be treated.  You can show your son by example how to be a Cinderella Man. You can show him what it’s like to go out and fight battles at work and be tough and then come home and be tender and connect with your wife and connect with your kids because that’s what we are all going to want for our sons as they grow up and enter marriage.

Then you can become the man that you have always dreamed to be.  I know in every one of your hearts there is that dream of what if.  What if I was that kind of guy?  You can.  God has already placed the ability within you.  We just have to rely on Him for the power to do it.
