Fear, anxiety and fatigue had eroded King Jehoshaphat’s faith. He was outnumbered and overwhelmed! He didn’t know what to do or where to turn. As he cried out to God, he called all his people to seek the Lord’s help together. In response, God heard their cry and would restore their faith in a huge way!
Have you ever been so overwhelmed you didn’t know what to do? You didn’t know where to turn? David’s example left a legacy of faith for a future king and descendant of his to follow that helped him restore faith when he felt overwhelmed.
You don’t have to watch the news to feel overwhelmed today. Fires, floods, hurricanes and earthquakes are bringing a torrent of destruction beyond anything I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. In Texas alone, we’ve experienced a hundred-year flood, a five-hundred-year flood, and just recently what’s being called a thousand-year flood with Hurricane Harvey’s unprecedented rain fall – and all of that in only the span of a couple of years!

“Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the King of Ai, his people, his city and his land.” Joshua 8:1 (NIV) Discouragement over the past […]
This question troubles us all whenever we see the innocent suffer. C.S. Lewis has written a great book on it called The Problem of Pain, but there is a noticeable difference in his academic and theological approach when contrasted to his personal response of grief when his wife tragically died in a book he […]
My weakness builds my character. Paul says in Romans 5:3, “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character.” Paul is saying that my weakness makes my character stronger. Weakness builds my character […]
Everyday we see so many forms of suffering. People who are bad and who are good, people who are young and who are old are all suffering. So why does God allow this to happen? The problem of pain has troubled theologians for centuries. Critics have used it in attempt […]
