“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.”
1 Corinthians 13:1 (NLT)
It’s been said that people won’t remember what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel. That’s the power of love! God not only loves, but God is love! In Him, we have the capacity to love like He loves. It’s a language that requires no translation and communicates the message of the Gospel like no other! In 1 Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul shows the superiority of love over any other quality and offers us the characteristics of God’s love; it’s unlike any other form of love we’ve ever experienced! Before he defines love, he describes what our world would be like without it. He says;
- Without love, words are meaningless.
Compliments are hollow and patronizing in the absence of love. If you want your words to have meaning, before you open your mouth to speak, open your heart to care. St. Francis of Assisi said, “Preach the gospel at all times and, when necessary, use words.” Lewis Cass added, “People may doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you do.” In 1 John 3:18, the Bible tells us “You show love for others by truly helping them, and not merely by talking about it.” That’s why I’m so excited about this weekend at Woodlands Church as we put this into practice! We’re calling it Be the Message Weekend! On October 11 & 12, we will be cutting our weekend services in half and taking action by serving the poor around the world, packing over 200,000 meals! Immediately following the shortened service, every attender will assemble food kits that contain quality, nutritious foods that will be shipped to local churches in Haiti, India, and Honduras. We invite you to join us this weekend at any one of our Woodlands Church campuses!
