“God has made you complete in Christ.” Colossians 2:10a (GW)
Our deep longing for love and acceptance is actually a good thing. God made us this way so we would long to be with Him. We’re free to chase after the things of this world. But, in the end, it doesn’t matter how many followers we have on social media, how many “likes” we get on a picture, or how many people we have dated. It doesn’t matter because none of these things will satisfy. In the moment, they may feel good but, afterward, you will feel even emptier than before.
Deep down, you already know this is true. You’ve experienced the emptiness that comes from chasing the temporary things of this world and looking in the distorted mirror of our culture. Yet, you still think that if you were more popular or prettier or skinnier, had more friends, had a great boyfriend, dressed differently, and had nicer things, then maybe you would feel important. You’d be somebody. Complete. Loved. Fulfilled. Beautiful.
The truth is that, no matter how hard you try to complete yourself with someone or something of this world, you will never succeed. God intended this. He didn’t want you to find completion and total worth anywhere but in Him. I don’t say this to make you feel hopeless but to give you hope! You have been searching and trying for so long, and I am here to tell you that you can let go and give up! Stop trying. Let God take over. Let Him be your true love and the mirror you look to for your sacred reflection, the One who gives you worth and makes you feel wanted and significant. Until you realize that you will never be compete unless you find your completion in Him, you will never feel truly beautiful. I don’t mean just believing God in God but actually communicating with Him and living in His truth. Let the Lord be your first and true love and you will find your completeness in Him.
