“When I look at the night sky and see the work of Your fingers— the moon and the stars You set in place— what are people that You should think about them, mere mortals that You should care for them? Yet You made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.” Psalm 8:3-5 (NLT)
You are the crown of God’s creation! You are a wonder more amazing than anything God made! If you don’t feel that way or it feels strange, even prideful to say it, then you’re in good company. David felt the same way as he wrote this incredible Psalm in his prayer journal we call the Book of Psalms. As he reflected on the majesty and wonder of God and considered the splendor of His creation, he was taken with the idea that God elevated man above it all and crowned him with glory and honor. The very thought of it was beyond his grasp. He even questioned, what are people that You should think about them, mere mortals that You should care for them? Still, the truth is, God does! He cares for you! In the New Testament, the Apostle Peter expands on that idea with this encouragement to those who were experiencing all kinds of trials. He wrote,
“Let Him have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (TLB)
This is the great truth Satan wants to keep from you. You’ve probably received credit card offers in the mail. On the front of the envelope, they usually say you have been “pre-approved” for the card. What if I told you that it works the same way with God – that you have been pre-approved by God and are already loved in His heart and are beautiful in His eyes? If you’ve ever doubted that or maybe never considered that, take some time to look up into the night sky. Behold the beauty of all that God placed in the night sky. Look at the stars. Would you take any of them away? Which one doesn’t belong? Is one too big or too small, too bright or too dim? Their order is random but determined, and you wouldn’t remove any of them even if you could. Why? Because, if they all looked the same and were evenly spaced out across the sky, it would be boring! The stars are gorgeous and unique just the way they are. Well, that’s exactly how God feels about you. He would never pick out one person and say, “Oh, I really messed up on that one. Why did I make her like that?” No! He made each of us the exact way He wanted us to be. We are the way we are for a reason, to fulfill a purpose. How boring it would be if we all looked the same, acted the same, and had the same passions and abilities. We’re all designed to play our unique part in this world. The way you look, think, and act is part of God’s special plan for you!
