God’s number one goal in your life is to make you more like His son, Jesus Christ

James 1:2-4 says, “When you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience. Then you will be mature and complete.”

God wants to mature your character. God’s ultimate purpose through suffering is to grow us to maturity and make us more like Jesus Christ. He is more concerned about our character than our comfort. There are two ways that God grows us in our character. First, when we get into His Word it changes our character and we become transformed by the renewing of our minds (Rom 12:2.) Second, He uses problems and pain and suffering to chip away the rough edges of my character. Although sometimes it feels like God is using a jackhammer, he is really the loving potter. “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8. Some of the most beautiful, spiritual, and wonderful people I’ve met are those who’ve been through a lot of suffering. They reflect the life of Jesus Christ.

Whose reflection do you see when you look in the mirror?
