21 Days of Clarity: Day 8

Day 8: Monday, January 18, 2016

Join us every day as we develop the spiritual habit of reading God’s Word – The Divine Map and learn to follow the Divine Guide – the Holy Spirit as He navigates us through the confusing times we live with clarity and peace.

THE DIVINE MAP READING

Navigate Psalm 32:8-9 (NLT)

The LORD says, I will guide you along the best pathway for your life, I will advise you and watch over you.  Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”

Today’s passage reminds me of a quote I saw the other day:

Do Not Ask God to Guide Your Footsteps if You’re Not Willing to Move Your Feet.

In Psalm 32, David is expressing the relief we all feel when God forgives us of our sins. God forgives us for a purpose, so that we may experience Him in our daily lives and follow His direction. He has a divine destiny for every life. Obedience always brings blessing. Having been forgiven, the Lord says to David and to us,

“I will guide you along the best pathway for your life, I will advise you and watch over you.”

The question is not “Will God guide us?” The question is “Will we follow Him?” You’ve heard it said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Are you on the path that God has chosen or one of your own choosing? David had detoured from God’s path and found himself lost and lonely. He felt the guilt and shame of departing from God’s path before he confessed his sin. He said,

“When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night Your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.” (Vs. 3-4)

Sin separates us from our fellowship with God and takes the joy out of our lives. But, God offers forgiveness that can restore our fellowship and our joy!

PRAY

When David turned to God in prayer he said,

“Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt.  I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.’ And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone.” (Vs. 5)

God heard his prayer, and He will hear ours as well. He restored David’s joy and relationship with Him. David said,

“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!  Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt….” (Vs. 1, 2)

Then, God began to speak to David’s heart and redirect his life so that he could fulfill his God-given destiny.

The LORD says, I will guide you along the best pathway for your life, I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
