Day 17: Wednesday, January 27, 2016
Join us every day as we develop the spiritual habit of reading God’s Word – The Divine Map and learn to follow the Divine Guide – the Holy Spirit as He navigates us through the confusing times we live with clarity and peace.
THE DIVINE MAP READING
Navigate Acts 20:24 (NLT)
But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
Here was a man facing imminent persecution, imprisonment, and possibly death; yet, he was driven passionately by his life purpose. While friends and colleagues did their best to try to dissuade Paul from going on to Jerusalem and avoiding trouble, he restated that purpose with unflinching determination. He admitted,
I don’t know what awaits me, except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead. But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
What is the driving purpose in your life? What are you most passionate about? What causes you to want to get out of bed each day and live life fully? What is worth dying for in your life? Paul knew that God had called him and that nothing else in life mattered. There was no confusion about his purpose. We may not be called to be apostles, but we have a high calling to be ambassadors for Christ. An ambassador is the representative of one king in the court of another. We represent the King of Kings in a fallen and sinful world that needs Good News. Whatever our vocation in life, our highest calling is to represent Christ and tell others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
Pray for clarity about your life purpose.
- What is God showing you through today’s Bible reading?
- The passage today could be called Paul’s life mission statement. It gave him clarity in confusing times and direction in uncharted waters. What is your life mission statement? Write it down and share it with a few trusted friends for confirmation.
