21 Days of Clarity: Day 16

Day 16: Tuesday, January 26, 2016

Join us every day as we develop the spiritual habit of reading God’s Word – The Divine Map and learn to follow the Divine Guide – the Holy Spirit as He navigates us through the confusing times we live with clarity and peace.

Navigate Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

This is a powerful prayer to pray. In this prayer, Paul makes specific requests to know the will of God, to have spiritual wisdom and understanding so that the way we live would honor and please the Lord making our lives fruitful. In the process, we would grow as we learned to know God better and better. Wow! Talk about getting clarity to live a divinely-directed life! God desires for us to know His will completely. The Greek word translated for “knowledge” in this verse carries the meaning of “full knowledge.” This is a process as we gain more understanding. God wants us to know His will and understand it completely. As we study His Word and pray, God reveals more insight to us. But, how does He do it? This is a knowledge, not by discovery, but by Divine revelation. Much like when Jesus asked Peter, “Who do you say that I am?” and Peter replied, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied,

“You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.” Matthew 16:17 (NLT)

God reveals Himself, His will, and His ways to us by means of spiritual wisdom and understanding. Practically speaking, the Holy Spirit will reveal the will of God through the Word of God. He is the Spirit of wisdom and understanding. As we pray and search the Scriptures, God gives us the wisdom and understanding we need through the Holy Spirit. The general will of God is revealed clearly in the Bible. The specific will of God for any given situation will never contradict what He has already revealed in His Word. The better we know God’s general will, the easier it will be to determine His specific guidance in our daily lives.

Personalize this prayer in your life today and pray it back to God. Then, pray it on behalf of your family and friends as well.

  1. What is God showing you through today’s Bible reading?
  1. Seek to know the general will of God as you read the Bible. Commit to obey God’s will in all that you do. How does aligning your life with the revealed will of God change your daily life? In what ways are you getting to know God better and better?
