21 Days of Clarity: Day 11

Day 11: Thursday, January 21, 2016

Join us every day as we develop the spiritual habit of reading God’s Word – The Divine Map and learn to follow the Divine Guide – the Holy Spirit as He navigates us through the confusing times we live with clarity and peace.

Navigate Psalm 84:11 (NLT)

“For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”

Navigating uncharted waters while following Divine direction is both mystical and practical. While God guides us in many mysterious ways, there is a practical aspect to finding His will that we must not overlook. If we do, it will be at our own peril. God offers us Divine protection and guidance – He is our sun and shield. The psalmist says He wants to give us grace and glory! In fact, our passage today even promises that the Lord will withhold no good thing from us! How awesome is that? Yet, the promise is given with a condition. We must do what is right. God offers direction, protection, and provision if we will walk uprightly with Him. To walk uprightly simply means to walk by faith and obedience to what God has clearly revealed to us in His Word. The New Testament counterpart to this Old Testament promise is found in Matthew 6:33.  In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount He said,

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.

To walk uprightly is to live righteously. Our righteousness is in Christ. That’s the good news! When you trust Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, He clothes you in His righteousness. If it were left up to you and me, we couldn’t walk uprightly. But, in Christ, we have new life – His life empowering us to do what is right and avoid what is wrong.

Prayer cultivates that deep connection with God that enables me to walk uprightly instead of up tightly. Through prayer, begin to appropriate the righteousness of Christ in your life. Thank the Lord Jesus that He is your righteousness before God and yield to His presence and power in your life. Be restfully available and instantly obedient to what He says.

  1. What is God showing you through today’s Bible reading?
  1. The right thing to do is seldom the easiest thing to do. What is it that God’s Spirit is impressing on you to do today that you know is the right thing to do? As you do it, know that God is your sun and shield. He will give you grace and glory! He will withhold no good thing from you!
